Digital Transformation through Dynamic Business Processes Modeling

In the modern-day world, companies face rapid changes due to high market pressure and technological development in order to fulfill the customers’ needs. Those changes which occur to business are to implemented in the Business Processes (BP) and maintaining Information Systems (IS). We’ll discuss each of these in this post.

Modern enterprises and organizations operate in a dynamic environment that is constantly evolving. New approaches for the Dynamic Business Process (DBP) for modeling, dynamic execution, simulation and management to express and model the behavior of the system over time is necessary.

Technology is one of the core pillars of digital transformation. There’s nothing wrong with digitally optimizing your business. For this, businesses need tools which support such DBP modeling and simulation. Therefore, all changes of BP has to be implemented into DBP due to dynamic environment, which will ensure the required dynamicity of business at runtime.

1. Business Processes

A Business Process can be defined as a composite set of tasks that comprise coordinated computer-based and human activities. A BP model is a formal representation of work procedures that controls the sequence of performed tasks and the allocation of resources to them.

Business Process Management and Information Systems Management techniques can be used to develop an evaluation framework for studying and positioning them to choose appropriate modeling techniques depending on the requirements assist decision-makers in comparatively evaluating and selecting suitable modeling techniques.

BPM techniques can generally be classified into two categories, namely static and dynamic modeling techniques.

Most of the currently used enterprise modeling technologies can be considered as static. In real-life scenarios, BP is not static. Therefore the demand for non-static models appears in the business world.

When digital transformation is done right, it’s like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, but when done wrong, all you have is a really fast caterpillar.

2. Dynamic Business Process

A process model can be viewed as an abstract representation of reality whose purpose is to reduce the complexity of the real world and to allow users to study processes more effectively. A process model can be used for various application purposes.

For example, to facilitate human understanding and communication, support process improvement, support process management, automate process guidance, or automate execution support.

Different application objectives will focus on different process elements and therefore impose different requirements on the capabilities of the chosen BPM method. To facilitate such diverse requirements, various BPM techniques have been developed to provide modelers with access to a wide range of options to suit modeling needs.

The dynamic model facilitates the display of activities and the flow of events within a process. The advantage of using dynamic modeling is that it enables the outcome of a changing process to be evaluated prior to it being implemented into the physical environment.

3. BP Management Life Cycle

In BPM, the idea is to create a life cycle of continuous improvement. The steps are model, implement, execute, monitor and optimize. Different phases in a Business Management Life Cycle are as follow

3.1 Process Design

The borrowing must carry out a study to analyze its objectives and organization to be able to break down all of its activity into different BP.

3.2 Process Modeling

Process Modeling to represent a model that will get as close as possible to reality “to-be” processes with the objectives of reducing problems and increasing efficiency.

3.3 Process Execution

Process Execution which replicates the implementation of the solution. More concretely, it is the implementation of a BPM solution that is linked to the company’s Information Systems.

3.4 Process Monitoring

Process Monitoring or also called pilotage consists of an analyzer and it studies the state of processes through dashboards showing the performance of processes.

3.5 Process Optimization

Here, solutions are proposed to improve the performance of BP and the improvement of the implemented processes.

4. BP Modeling and IS Relationship

Modeling the existing situation allows the process to become clear and available to each employee. The basic advantage of this phase is the unified look into Business Processes which frequently leads to the creation of new ideas on how to advance the processes.

After the model of advanced BP is created, it is necessary to measure the objects of the process in order to see the efficiency of the proposal. Following implementation, the altered BP need to be constantly monitored. There are various BP modeling tools which allow us to represent our process in a digital way that can then be transferred to a live automated process.

Following are the benefits which we get from this method. The process created through simulated modeling permits a detailed understanding of the course and interdependence among processes.

  • Gives a clear understanding of how the process works
  • Provides consistency and controls the process
  • Identifies and eliminates redundancies and inefficiencies
  • Sets a clear starting and ending to the process

A modeling technique should be capable of representing one or more of any modeling perspectives such as

  • Functional which represents what activities are being performed.
  • Behavioral which represents when and how activities are performed.
  • Organizational which represents where and by whom activities are performed and,
  • Informational which represents the informational entities-data.

BP change involves changes in people, processes, and technology over time. These changes will only happen over time.

5. Summary

Successful world companies are under constant pressure to increase profits and to take increasing market shares. In order to reach that goal, they must frequently adapt their business models along with their BP. To do so, they use software tools for modeling BP, which integrate components for dynamic modeling and measuring the performance of the processes.

Later, they relate to tools for developing Information Systems, which substantially decrease the time required to create the company’s Information Systems and to permit fast and simple tracking of operations.
